If you’re not a librarian, it’s May. School is almost over. It’s time for summer vacations and pools and cookouts and mosquitoes . . .
If you work in a public library, it’s the final planning for summer reading. The children’s librarian wants to do a family treasure hunt (this year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities so everything is pirates and mermaids and whales). It’s what I think of as midnight-madness style where clue one leads to clue two etc until you finally find a clue that says you’ve won.
The hunt isn’t until mid-June (I think, def no earlier than the first Saturday of June), but I started thinking about clues as soon as I finished the stats last week and my brain is now stuck.
Tomorrow I start beta testing the hunt. (I have already noted changes I need to make before The Day.)
Which lead to me rummaging through the costume wardrobe and most of the closets and dressers, all to put together a pirate costume for Uley (the skeleton for new readers). By the time I found pants that could work I’d fallen in love with the skirt / Pirate Queen idea.
You can see the sword, armlets, and coins better in pic 1, but Uley seems too friendly. Or something. I like his vibe better in pic 2.
Beeteedubs, Uley doesn’t actually stand. I mean, he wasn’t designed to stand up on his own. Yet here he is. If you closely at his feet you can see his left, well, it looks like he lost his left foot at the ankle. That's because the toes caught in the skirt and the whole foot is turned up parallel to his shin. He is resting most of his weight (which isn't much to be honest) on his heel. Which I guess is something you can do once you're dead, or at least undead / reanimated skeleton. Or plastic.
Yes, he needs a hat. I know. I don’t have a pirate hat. I’ll make him something and do a better photo shoot if we decide* to use him.
Unrelated: Torii was squeak squeaky squeak squeak yesterday morning while I was in the kitchen. I looked through to the living room and . . . no Torii. But Uley, sitting on the couch looking out the front window was fwap fwap fwapping his tail. Of course Uley doesn’t have a tail. I thought Torii — once I located her — was inside Uley’s ribs, but no, she was just beside him. And she moved away before I could take a pic!
I don’t have an ending for this. There’s nothing to really circle back to. I spent three days (so far) at work writing treasure hunt clues and tonight at home dressing up a skeleton.
How’s your week so far?
*I have decided. I just need to get the others to agree.
