Today I realized the bunnies move like Weeping Angels (if you aren't familiar with how religious statuary moves per Doctor Who why are you here?). Or how they don't move.
I wheeled the herbie curbie (large official outdoor trash can for those who don't live in the suburbs or whose garbage company hasn't named the receptacles) to the bottom of the driveway and then turned back to get to my car. There was a smallish wild rabbit behind me. So I walked with comically exaggeration in a wide arc to the driver's door. My eyes were on him the whole time. Bun didn't move.
I looked at the door handle (there are far worse pains than not quite getting your fingers on the car door mechanism and it snapping back on you, but it's insanely painful and only a fool risks it) and got in. When I looked out through the windshield, bun had turned toward the car.
I buckled my seat belt. Put the key in but did not turn it. Settled my purse and grocery totes on the passenger seat. I never looked away from bun and bun did not move.
I turned the key. Bun is still.
I glanced at the gear shift and back up and bun was haring it up the driveway.
I only saw him running for the slightest fraction of a second -- which sucked because I wasn't sure where he'd gone. Was he under the car, or behind it? Maybe across the street and through the tree line? I have never backed out of my driveway so slowly.
So, yeah, Weeping Angel mode.
p.s. I don't know that either the local city agency which used to collect trash or the new outsourced garbage service actually named the receptacles. I grew up in Lexington and LFUCG did name the trash cans: Herbie (regular trash), little sis Rosie (recycling), and Lenny (lawn waste). Seriously. Each can is a different color, too, altho green Herbie and grey Lenny are really closely hued. The're slightly different sizes, too.
p.p.s. Rosie is blue.
p.p.p.s. Now I'm really wondering how many other city waste management offices named the trash can. Oh, and LFUCG = Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, which so just rolls off the tongue.
p.p.p.p.s. Wow, it's been a long time since I've written so many postscripts. Friends visiting this weekend so I'm writing this post while on a break from cleaning. I may be procrastinating. I've done so much today and I really don't want to stand up again.
