Well, I didn’t die, so that’s a positive

czarinamisha

One of my flamingos passed. There was only one black flamingo when I got home from work tonight. I couldn’t believe someone stole a flamingo. I finally found him in the peonies and vinca. His neck, made of lowest quality foam, was broken. Again.

In other news: Amazon Facebook ad of random sh*t based on your browsing history (which is doomed to fail, Amazon, because half the time I browse just trying to figure out wth this thing in your Facebook ad is): looooong kawaii cat body pillow, comes in brown (orange with white belly), gray (gray with white belly), pink (pink with white belly but huh?), husky (which I thought was a weird judgment either of the girth of the cat pillow or the person who should by it but no it’s actually a Husky dog), black (panda), and green (dinosaur).

All if which is avoiding my actual news.

At work, received a call from an unidentified woman asking if so-and-so (you’ll see why I’m skipping name, sex, even eye color in a minute) because they (the patron) had a pistol and the cops were looking for them. So-and-so had been in earlier but had left at least 30 minutes before the call. I was pretty sure it was so-and-so’s grandmother. I couldn’t remember the current family drama deets and whether grandma hates so-and-so. I told the next person in seniority. And went back to counting the seconds until I could flee the d*mn front desk.

So-and-so came back. I didn’t see any suspicious bulges or anything odd sticking out of a pocket. Again, I told next up the pecking order. So-and-so seemed like their usual self. If the police were looking for them, and they knew it, they were at the library for sanctuary. They might or might not be armed, probably wouldn’t start anything at the library, but calling in the police most likely would lead to shooting. The police never contacted the library, never came in looking for so-and-so, so we let it be and prayed.

Random thing I know about so-and-so: they have clinical depression and, as of last week according to the phone call I overheard while shelving, they’re out of their meds and unable to get more.

I also had a call from a man who was very agitated because he just lost his job and needed to file unemployment and didn’t know what all he needed to do that and didn’t really know what to do and could someone help him if he came to the library. According to him, he was terminated via text, no reason given. I was at the bank when he in actually came in so I didn’t work with him. Another librarian did get him online and to the right site and walk him through the steps. There was an rep from one of the numerous overlapping government agencies that help job seekers, but her agency doesn’t handle unemployment and she seemed to know less than the we the librarians.

I don’t know where I’m going with this. I’ll wrap up with: I didn’t get shot or witness a shooting, and the world is a harsh place for the marginalized. And for flamingos made of foam. And chubby people who just want a cute animal body pillow.
