I've been delinquent again. I know. Things fell apart and then I fell apart trying to hold everything together. You know what, I don't want to get into and I feel like I bored/annoyed you enough last time. I got way more political than I meant to.
So just some good stuff today because it's already been stressful enough and I really don't want to just wallow in it. I can (and will vent) later.
I came in to work one Saturday and there was a crime scene. Not really. Someone made a corpse-was-here outline in blue painters tape on the floor behind the Circ desk. A couple of the Friday staff (including the director) decided on the spur to do it. And maybe someone could maybe come up with some kind of murder mystery game tied to it to run on the library's social media.
Of course neither of the people involved worked that Saturday.
So the first thing I did was redo the blood spatter. It was embarrassing. It was really a pink paint spatter image just printed out on regular white copier paper. So that had to go. I found some free downloadable blood spatter images with transparent background and put them on top of a wood grain text box filler in Publisher. The wood grain doesn't exactly match the library flooring, but it's better than stark white.
And I made some murder mystery notes.
And on Monday I asked around who was doing what with the game. And no one stepped up. So I wrote a ridiculous short mystery and created clues (including a fake e-mail from not-really our security company). And friends, at my request, sent me several crazy angry direct messages on Facebook as tho they were dm'ing the library so I could have a clue lead to a frustrated patron who thinks all of the books she wants to read are being stolen.
It's been weird and creative and fun. Thank god it's finally done. Daniel can post them according to a schedule we set up.
Also, I finished (ok, one final bit on a sleeve) a nightgown I've been sewing. I love cheap nightshirts from Walmart. but they're always too short. I have to wear pj bottoms with them when I stay with friends. So I got (cough last year) some Halloween fabric. A nice soft cotton t-shirt sort. And I finally made nightshirts which aren't full length nightgowns but not barely cover my ass sleep tees. I made a few dumb rookie mistakes (I cut the back so all of the cats were upside down so I had to recut it but of course I no longer had one piece big enough so I cut a right half and a left half and had to sew them together before I could sew front and back together). But I got to teach myself a new stitch, mostly to help with the screw up I made, but whatevs.
Uley the skeleton moved around a lot at first, but now he's settled in a rocker locking out the front window. Think Mama Bates. That seems to be what he wants to do for Halloween. I still picture him dressed as pirate-skeleton-in-drag from Curse of the Black Pearl, but I guess I'll find him a grey wig instead of a frilly bonnet. He's already wearing my old glasses.
Torii has accepted Uley. She sometimes sits beside him the rocker. She tried sitting on his lap, but didn't stay. She's got such a bony little ass and then Uley is of course bony . . . I think it just wasn't comfortable for either of them.
That's me for today.
Thanks for stopping by and chatting. I feel much better. I hope I could cheer you up a bit too.
p.s.
Torii and Uley
This is what I assume they do all day while I'm at work. Oh, and Uley is wearing my beach cover-up (which was actually supposed to be the duster to a 2-piece 1990's pantsuit, but when I found it at whatever store -- someplace that's long since gone out of business -- there were no pants, which were probably just cheap elastic-waist pull-ups which is what designers -- I'm using the word very loosely here -- think is classy enough for plus size and they don't have to bother actually measuring and maybe even tailoring just a bit, so no actual loss that the pants had wandered off and the duster was already super marked down clearance and I got a little more off since it was supposed to be 2 pieces even tho I only ever saw beach cover-up when I looked at it).
p.p.s.
And this is the "official" case file for the library whodunnit. The cover art, if such it can be called, came from a pic I took of the blue outline + the chest wound blood pool which I then printed b/w. I cut it out and voila: every cheap mystery paperback cover 1960-1990.
