The opening song to Despicable Me is stuck in my head.
So far this week, I have:
dealt with half of the public computers going down
troubleshot (troubleshooted?) two mobile hotspot units
attempted to answer detailed tech questions about mobile hotspots (I usually just describing them as pulling magic wifi pixels from the air) to a patron who understands them less than I do
helped a woman with brain damage (not snark, she was in a very serious accident) print labels for two hours
spent almost an entire day texting, emailing, calling customer support, and talking to a technician about a major tech glitch while also fielding calls from patrons wondering why they can’t access their ebooks
and finding the form to request a handicap parking permit on a state government office website.
Only two of these actually fall into even the broadest reading of my job description and are anything I am remotely competent at doing. Neither of them, or really any of the above, are anything I specifically trained to do for my library master’s.
My major accomplishment — the only thing which really feels like a big win — is finding the lost spray bottle of antibacterial/antiviral cleaner we use to wipe down all returned items.
So it’s Wednesday. I’m wondering what tomorrow’s disaster will be. And singing Gru’s theme on endless repeat in my head. (I probably have the lyrics wrong.)
