I haven't felt so bone-weary exhausted this week. Not to say I feel great or even kind of okay. I'm still a long loooong way from my norm. But I did the dishes tonight which puts me eay ahead of last week at this time.
Celebrate the wins. Acknowledge the losses -- denial really isn't a nice place to live, especially at this time of year -- but celebrate the wins.
Today was . . .
The county clerk and their staff were in the library setting up for early voting. Which starts tomorrow. They finished and left around lunchtime. And then we started having people walk in looking for the voting area and then getting really angry when we told them it starts tomorrow.
To save themselves time in the morning the clerk's staff put out all of the Vote Here Today! signs. Except of course that's not true, but I guess there's no market for Vote Here Tomorrow! signs. And we're not supposed to touch any of the clerk's stuff lest someone scream "fraud!", but we decided we could at least cover the Vote Here Now! signs and uncover them just before we leave so they're set for tomorrow.
At 5:59 pm, one minute before close, someone asked about voting today. Even if it had been today, polling would have closed one hour and fifty-nine minutes before he came in.
I'm knee-deep in monthly stats and need to devote tomorrow to finishing them for the board meeting. I do not need to spend the day answer elections questions.
During the primary back in May, I had a long exchange with a person who had voted during the early voting period and didn't understand why she was turned away at the primary election day polling place, so came to the library to vote. The library had only been a "no excuse early voting" option, which really didn't matter as the petson had already voted in the primary. So on primary election day I attempted to explain the difference between the primary and the full-on November elections to soneone who haf already voted in the first and would have to wait until the fall (now) to vote in the latter. The petson eventually said, "Well who did I just vote for?"
I don't know, dude. I really don't.
I want to put out whatever juvenile nonfiction books we have on the election process. Clearly there are too many (one is too many) voters who don't grasp the basics which really worries me with the amendments on this ballot. Vote yes, vote no, but understand what you are actually doing.
Please.
I think that was part of a very ranting post I drafted but never posted after the May primary. I may not post it now. It's less ranty than the earlier version, or at least what I remember of it, but it's still not entertaining to read. So if you get to the paragraph and ate wondering what I'm talking about, well it means I decided to cut the ladt few paragraphs. But left this one in for some reason.
I think I'll sign off tonight with two pics I took today. The first is a house I pass to and from work that had an increasingly awesome Hallowe'en vignette. Shipreck Cove.
(Sorry about the giant watermark. I couldn't find a way to adjust the font size editing the pic on my phone. Hopefully I can fix it on my break tomorrow.) Then there was the most beautiful sunset behind me driving home tonight. Unfortunately there was also a Walmart semi behind me. I finally got a decent pic of the sunset reflected in my rear view mirror.
And so, good night.
p.s. Vote this election -- unless you truly don't have a clue how US elections work.
