. . . and on Friday I Spent $10,000 in Two Hours

czarinamisha

So I really lost control of this weekend. My plan, such as it was, was to alternate between sewing, reading, and cleaning. Light cleaning. Just to get the ball rolling, as it were, but nothing super intense.

It's Saturday night. I've cleaned the stove top so far. That's all. And I cleaned it while waiting for the oven to preheat so I could make supper.

So that's maybe a little lighter than I intended.

Roofer organizing person, Katya, came over Friday morning for our final walkthrough (which was reallt just going to the backyard and looking up) and to get the check. She took some drone pics for their website and I asked for copies I could send to the insurance company as proof.

Just before Katya arrived, Douglas the porch guy called. He had to delay a couple more f jobs because materials were late arriving but my porch demolition + new deck was simple and required nothing special so could he send his concrete guy over. Which was great but meant I had to drag several planter-containers off of the porch as soon as Katya left.

Then I wrote the second check of the day, the deposit (if that's the right word) to Douglas.

With the concrete guys breaking up and hauling away my crappy old porch I decided I was D-U-N done for the day and it was pjs time.

Then I remembered my appointment for the season's covid shot.

Back from that and my arm already getting sore (I had to switch brands and apparently my body likes the one I can only get in Lexington better), I was back in pjs again.

Which is when I got the text from painter #3 -- the one who was supposed to come last week but kept pushing back the time until I said nope. Because I'd rescheduled with him for this Friday and forgotten in the other project madness.

So back in legit clothes.

Painter #3 changed the time again. Often. But he finally showed at dusk and walked around and later sent me an estimate for half of what painter #2 wanted.

I'm also waiting on an estimate from painter #4 who is Douglas the porch guy. He's expanding his remodeling business to include more things and yes exterior painting is one of them.

I fantasize that his estimate will be half of #3 's. Because that's what I daydream these days.

(Apologies for the extra space. <hashtagnumberapostropheletter> must be some code because the text goes weird if I don't break it up. And I just can't be bothered to figure out why it's weird so I just make a deliberate typo to stop the weird.)

Anyway, it's Saturday night, which I'm pretty sure I already mentioned but I have to keep reminding myself what reality is because it's gotten so flippin' manic. I have a new roof and a nearly-complete new deck . . .

and a window box fan that's suddenly making a strange sound. No. Just no. It's not like it's a major appliance or particularly expensive to replace, but

I. CANNOT. DEAL.

Nothing else. Not now.

p.s. If you're worried about the wee demon throughout all of the destruction/construction, don't. She flipped out Thursday morning when the roofing crew arrived. She couldn't believe I was letting all of these strangers just walk all over the property. The noise didn't seem to bother her nearly much as the knowledge that there were people around. But she was more curious than freaked when the concrete guy showed on Friday. She supervised a lot of the work from the back windowsill. I think she napped through the guys sawing and hammering the planks today.

So, really, she's good. She's definitely adapting better than me.

p.p.s. I did finish the novella I started like three weeks ago. And wished I hadn't. It was an interesting plot idea poorly written with no editing or even beta reader feedback. So tomorrow, which I figure should be Sunday, I am fixing the goof I made cutting the pj pieces and cleaning my damn kitchen. As god is my witness.

p.p.p.s. Awhile back I won passes to Speed Museum's monthly after hours event and I asked my posse if anyone wanted to go with? And all three said yes and that's this coming Friday so I'm cleaning for company but also because I really really need to. But mostly for company.
